Question by cindy b:
will malathion work to kill bed bugs, and how will I use it?

My landlord is going to use malathion in my home to kill bed bugs. Is this going to work, and how will they do it? Do they use a spray? Im not sure because she is spanish and doesnt speak good english, and I want these things out now! So what do you recommend I do when she uses this stuff? Do I have to leave for days or just hours?

Yes….IF it is the right strength and applied properly.

I would never allow it to be sprayed by anyone but a licensed professional in my home.

Call your local health department and talk to them about this.

If applied improperly, it can be dangerous to the people living in the home.

Malathion is not an approved product for use indoors. Using a pesticide in a manner inconsistent with labeling constitutes a violation of federal law!

Regardless of legality, bed bug control using chemicals is extremely difficult. Bed Bugs hide in tiny cracks and crevices that are very difficult to treat, even for the most seasoned pest control professionals. The best method of Bed Bug control available today, I believe, is using heat. All stages of bed bugs die at approximately 120 degrees after a few minutes. In a heat treatment, pest control professionals use specialized heaters to heat the ambient air of a structure to this temperature and hold it for 2-3 hours. This method is effective and, in most cases, completely chemical free.

Malathion must not ever be used indoors.
Using the correct strength to kill bedbugs, fleas, et al, is far too strong for indoor use. Malathion is an organophosphate. A P O I S O N. Sod the legality because, if you ignore the warnings and press on and use it indoors, prosecution is the last thing to be concerned about. You will be seriously ill or dead.

That landlady mentioned in the first post needs her head examined.
