Bedbugs were probably an unavoidable fact of life.

It was a sheep barn. Bedbugs weren’t the danger, but animal feces and insects probably were.

From what little we know about them, both Mary and Joseph were wise and caring parents. I’m sure they checked for poop and roaches before they put Him in the manger.
